Mental Fitness ~ Nothing Can Substitute For Peace & Quiet & Nature

Header - Post - Earth DayAlthough I am currently renting an apartment, I have been blessed with having a back porch.  After living in my apartment for more than 13 months, we finally have outdoor furniture so that we can enjoy peace, quiet and nature.  During the summer of 2014, my husband and I attended so many doctor appointments that we were rarely home.  Getting outdoor furniture actually did not cross my mind.  At that time, relaxing was not a regular part of my agenda.  No bueno.

This past Saturday morning around 9am, Lowe’s delivered our new chairs!

I was so excited to see that the chairs were already assembled.  No labor for hubby.  Lowe’s gets extra points for that.  I bought the table from Walmart a few weeks before I even saw the chairs at Lowe’s.  I knew that the chairs that I wanted were out there waiting for me.  And they were.

After I walked 2.30 miles around my neighborhood Saturday morning, I set up the porch for some quality time with nature. It has been too long since I have had the opportunity to spend a lazy Saturday at home.  I have a chair in my bedroom that faces the window.  Sometimes, I sit there and look out of the window.  However, there’s something to be said for actually being outside with nature that looking out of the window cannot give us.  I needed the rejuvenation that the peace and quiet and nature gave me.

I spent most of my day Saturday reading and watching the beavers, rabbits, deer and birds.  As sat, I thought about Jesus’ words in Matthew 6:26.

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

As I sat enjoying the peace and quiet on Saturday, I had so many other thoughts about life, health, ministry, career, family…   I am much more valuable to God than the birds that I was watching.  You are much more valuable to God than the birds I was watching.  God love us and wants the best for us. God definitely met me on my back porch on Saturday.  I look forward to many more days with God on my back porch.  God has so much to share with us, if we would only take the time and sit with God and God’s creation.  If only.

How do you make time to enjoy peace and quiet and nature?  Please share. Feel free to leave a comment at the end of this post, on the Facebook fan page, Tweet me or use the form on the Contact page. Be blessed. Stay encouraged.
