Zahra's LogoGreetings! My name is Zahra and I am on a life journey to obtain optimal health for my mind, body and spirit. By education I am a food scientist and chemical engineer.  However, my life purpose is to help others find natural alternatives to everyday needs. That is where my passion lies.  I believe that food is medicine and it can either heal or harm us.  We truly are what we eat! The catalyst for this journey is my son Caleb who has been challenged by food allergies, eczema, and digestive woes. His short life has taught me more about alternatives and making better choices than I could have ever imagined.  Please, join us on this journey…let’s travel together! Peace and Blessings.

Hi Folks! Summer is here! Most states are experiencing temperatures above 80 degrees Fahrenheit. When the heat hits, the most important thing to do is to STAY HYDRATED! Nothing can hydrate your body like water. Not only can water quench your thirst, it fuels your brain, keeps nutrients moving through your cells, and helps with bowel movements and elimination of toxins. Water can also keep joints supple and prevent dry skin, hair and scalp issues.

Most of us don’t like water. It’s tasteless. When it’s cold, it’s refreshing…but it’s still tasteless. It’s hard for some to drink an 8-ounce glass of water. Then, there are bottled drinks on the market that claim to keep you hydrated and balance your electrolytes. What is not advertised is that those drinks are full of sugar, preservatives and other chemicals that are not good for our bodies.

I have a solution for you: INFUSED WATER!  I have become obsessed with infused water! What is it? It’s fruits, vegetables and/or herbs steeped in water for a period of time. This is the REAL vitamin water.  While steeping, nutrients from the fruits are diffusing into the water providing a great tasting beverage.

Here are 6 infused water combinations I’ve consumed over the last few weeks:

  1. Strawberry kiwi
  2. Orange, sage and lemon
  3. Mint lemon
  4. Basil, cucumber and watermelon
  5. Orange blueberry
  6. Mint, pineapple and ginger

How to you do it? Easy peasy!

  1. Put filtered water in a pitcher, water bottle or glass.
  2. Add your desired fruits and herbs.
  3. Let it steep (in fridge or not) for about 30 minutes or longer. Some fruits don’t take as long to release flavor/color than others.
  4. ENJOY!

infused #2If your children don’t like drinking water, adding their favorite fruit to the party will be sure to increase their water intake. I do it for my 3-year-old toddler. Most days, it works like a charm!

As it heats up this summer, remember to stay hydrated by drinking water. Sports drinks, juice (even fresh juice), soda and iced tea will only temporarily quench your thirst. Water will keep your body operating in an optimal fashion. There’s no replacement for water!

Peace and love!
