A Wonderful Word for Wednesday ~ Don't Be Devoured

Header - Post - Go Get It In 2013

On Wednesdays, the My Faith and Fitness Blog will feature a passage of scripture and questions to encourage us to reflect on how we can each live a life that pleases God and allows us to fulfill the plans that God has prepared for us.

To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder and a witness of Christ’s sufferings who also will share in the glory to be revealed: Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.  In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,

“God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble.”[a]

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.  Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.  10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 11 To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.  ~ 1 Peter 5:1-11 (NIV)

Do you perform your assignment(s) from God with excitement or begrudgingly? What is the basis of your attitude?

How much resistance to you give to the Godly leaders in your life?

What is the root cause of your resistance?

Do you put the same amount of time and energy resisting the enemy?

I can admit that there is one thing I know God has been instructing me to do, but I just don’t do it. It saddens me because I know I’m disobeying Him and that’s not right, nor is it something that I want to do. However, I still have not begun to exercise and workout on a daily and consistent basis. This may sound silly or unrelated to some, but I know God has been on me about my health and my body, but I just keep ignoring Him.

I find it difficult to exercise and workout, like I should, because I’ve become so accustom to not doing it. Honestly, I’ve become so great at talking myself out of doing it. The wild thing is there’s a side of me that actually enjoys and wants to workout, but the other side has become so much stronger. Rather that working out, I spend my time doing other things that I find more enjoyable.

I know this is something I need to change and I know it starts in my mind. I just pray that I can get a handle on it before it’s too late.

Thank you for allowing me to share and thank you for the timely message.

Thank you for writing such an honest comment. I pray that you will get to the place where you are not resistant to God’s instructions. It is far better to be obedient voluntarily than to be obedient because we have run out of options. Far better. Be blessed. Remain encouraged.
