Testimony Tuesday is the time for inspirational stories. During this time, the My Faith and Fitness blog will feature stories of others. Readers will also have the opportunity to their share good health, fitness and weight loss journeys so that others may be encouraged. Today, I am sharing the inspirational story of Lolo Jones.
I know you may be wondering, “Who is Lolo Jones?” I learned about Lolo Jones on Saturday while at the gym walking on the treadmill. She is a runner and 100M hurdler. I was riveted to the screen as I watched a documentary featuring her compelling life story on the television. I could barely keep up with reading the captions! I was so inspired by the obstacles that she overcame in her life, I decided to follower her on Twitter, so that I can learn more about her running career.
Lolo Jones grew up in Des Moines, Iowa in poverty. During her youth, her family encountered homelessness. Her mother struggled to support Lolo and her four siblings. Her father was incarcerated for a significant portion of her life. But God provided Lolo solace in running. In the documentary, Lolo stated that when she was younger, running was the one constant in her life. Running allowed her to earn a scholarship to Louisiana State University. Lolo’s track team at LSU earned the NCAA championship. Jones was also a member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Track Team. Her dreams of earning a medal were devastated when she stumbled and fell on the second-to-last hurdle. God has provided her another opportunity to win a medal, this time in London. A few short hours after I watched her life story unfold in that documentary, Lolo Jones qualified for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Track Team! To God be the glory for the great things God has done!
I pray that Lolo Jones’ story inspires you to keep the faith and persevere despite all that life may throw at you. If you are interested in submitting your story for Testimony Tuesday, please complete the form on the Contact page. Stay encouraged.
