I had to add a new routine to my workout regimen. This new routine was not exactly a choice. I went out of town last weekend to visit family and forgot to bring my sneakers back home with me. The sneakers were not the issue, as I have another pair of sneakers that I can wear while I exercise. My Nike+ sensor was the issue! My sensor is in the pair of sneakers that I left behind. No bueno. Because I want to keep accurate records of my walking, I cannot walk on the treadmill until my sensor arrives in the mail. I know that you may be saying to yourself, “That’s a bit strict (or anal or obsessive).” Maybe it is strict or anal or obsessive or all three. But, in order for me to track my walking progress (distance, time and pace), I need my sensor. So, I was forced to do something new at the gym yesterday.
I did some strength training by working on my thighs, abs and arms. For cardio, I tried the elliptical. I could only do five minutes at level one. It was not a pretty sight. As a result, I have a new fitness goal and an updated regimen. My goal is to work my way up to 30 minutes on the elliptical machine without feeling like I’m about to have a heart attack. I don’t have a deadline because I have no idea how long it will take me to accomplish this goal. Instead of walking on the treadmill four times per week, I am going to walk on the treadmill three times per week and do strength training and the elliptical machine on the fourth day. This new regimen should help me to become a better athlete. Did I just use the “A” word to describe myself? Wow!
Although I was not happy about leaving my sneakers and my sensor with the fam, something good came out of my forgetfulness: A new goal and a more comprehensive regimen. Can’t beat that. How are you doing with achieving your fitness goals? Please share. Stay encouraged.
