Carbs and Me

Eating carbs is a hard habit to break.  You may recall that I recently admitted to being a tracker. As a part of my tracking tendencies, I have been using the MyFitnessPal app for approximately two and a half months to track my caloric intake.  Today, I decided to analyze my daily calorieImage representing MyFitnessPal as depicted in... breakdown.  According to the app, calories from carbohydrates should not be more than 55% of my daily intake. Calories from fat should be limited to 30% and the remaining 15% should be calories from protein.

I am consistently over my carb limit.  Over these recent months, there were a few occasions where I was under the 55% limit.  More often than not, however, I found myself at or above 55%, sometimes way above.  No bueno.  On the bright side, I have been doing relatively well with my sugar intake by replacing sugary drinks with water or lightly-sweetened homemade iced tea.

Many foods are high in carbohydrate, but my favorites are breads, pasta and potatoes. Sandwich bread, dinner rolls, bagels, garlic bread, Texas toast, pizza…  Spaghetti, linguine, rotini, ziti, penne…  Baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, hash browns, french fries, potato chips…  I need healthy substitutes.

I am listing my favorites because I want you to keep me accountable.  If you see me eating, or about to eat, any of my favorites, just ask me, “Are you within your carb limit today?” or something else along those lines. Let us sharpen one another. Perhaps, if I lowered my carb intake, I could lose weight faster. I need to research that. How are things on your road of good health and fitness? Remain encouraged.
