Today is the 10th annual National Women’s Checkup Day! As you may know, May 13-19, 2012 is the 13th annual National Women’s Health Week. National Women’s Checkup Day is a nationwide effort coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health to encourage women to visit health care professionals to receive or schedule checkups.  Hundreds of health care providers will offer free preventive screenings or screenings at reduced rates.  Participate in an event in your local community.

Women can participate in National Women’s Checkup Day by:

* Contacting their current health care professionals to schedule checkups and get important screenings on National Women’s Checkup Day.

* Discussing with their health care professionals which screenings are right for them, when they should have them and how often.

* Learning which screenings and immunizations they need and at what age.

* Taking the Checkup Day Pledge on the website, and pledging to schedule at least one preventive health screening during May 2012.  Print the pledge certificate to encourage others to schedule screenings with their health care professionals.

In celebration of National Women’s Checkup Day, I am going to schedule my first mammogram today. I turned 40 in April, but I have been delaying the mammogram because of the horror stories I have heard from my friends.  I know.  No bueno.  But, I will delay no longer!  Today, I will call and make an appointment. No excuses! I made my pledge for good health.  What will you resolve to do today in furtherance of protecting your health?  Please share. You can also complete the form on the Contact page.  Remain encouraged.
